Time flies! This program is the perfect choice for a quick trip into the prehistoric past! Meet your guide at the museum and go back in time for a morning or afternoon of digging for dinosaurs in one of the WDC’s active fossil sites.
Shovel Ready is offered 7 days a week from May 25 through September 15 (weather permitting). You will meet your guide at the museum at either 9:00 AM or 1:00 PM. You will then be transported out to your dig site, which lies within 10 minutes of the museum. There you’ll get a brief history of the museum, the dig sites, and prehistoric Wyoming. You will then get a tour of your dig site and “training” to get acquainted with the tools you will be using to look for dinosaur bones.
You will dig in the site for three hours, working alongside your guide(s.) Questions are encouraged! At the end of the morning/afternoon, everyone returns to the museum. Water and tools are provided, but everyone is encouraged to dress for the weather (e.g., sunscreen, sun hats, water bottles, etc.) Closed-toe shoes are mandatory.
The Shovel Ready Program is open to all ages, regardless of experience; however, a parent or legal guardian must accompany anyone under age 18.
